东京梦华录：中元节以竹竿斫成二，脚高三、五尺，上织灯窝之状，谓之盂兰盆。按盂兰盆经目连比邱事，天竺云盂兰经，此言倒悬救器也。是会台地尤盛。届期，为首者斋戒起灯竺，高数寻，悬烛笼其上，光荧荧照彻四野。依庙为坛，施彩结，四壁挂古人山水名蹟几遍，旁置金鸭，爇沈水香，氤氲满室。诸螺钿椅桉，悉列缥瓷及古鼎彝玩器，甚洁清。又假楮帛，饰金银山与土地仙佛形状。金迷纸醉，如入银世界中。晚放水灯，或送王爷船。诸执事人等役惟谨，无敢譁失礼者。质明日昳，大陈给孤园，冥镪山积，羊豕数十重，穷极侈丽。凡山海珍错、糗〈米耳〉果蓏之属罔不备。秃子喃喃诵经呪，以喧杂故，语不复可闻。其坛外则梨园歌唱，百戏镗鞳，缘橦者、弄猴者、吞刀吐火、喝雉呼卢者，各以技奏。但见万人如海，豕突狼奔，算不尽恒河沙数，盛哉！夜漏三鼓，焚冥帛送神。将彻，恶少年三五成群，奋臂夺神餕以去；稍拂之，则弩目视人，无敢撄其锋者；谓之「抢孤」。若贫家，则仪文稍杀云。台人惟此节縻赀财至广，皆自谓发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心者，周处风土记所未载也，故记之。
