戴望舒计划从一九三七年马德里的西班牙出版社印行的《西班牙战争谣曲选》中选译二十首诗，出版单行本。译事未竟，香港沦陷。戴望舒滞留香港期间，继续这一工作。他在自己收藏的剪报末页注明：《西班牙抗战谣曲选》“在沦陷期中增补五分之一”。《文艺春秋》第三卷第六期（一九四六年十二月）曾刊登戴望舒翻译的《西班牙抗战谣曲选》将由大地书馆印行的广告。不过，至今未见到单行本。本卷收录了在报刊上发表的十首译诗，并附录戴望舒《跋〈西班牙抗战谣曲选〉》（《华侨日报·文艺周刊》一九四八年十二月十二日）一文，以资说明。
