Secretary:Certainly, sir. How would you like to go

Manager:I’d like to go by train from here to Chicago and spend two days there.1 Then I’d like to fly to Denver for a stay of two nights. I want to go on to Los Angeles by plane for an indefinite stay of three or four days.

Secretary:I’ll get in touch with the railroad and airline passenger representations immediately. Do you still want a bedroom

Manager:Yes. And please make sure the train has a club car and a dinner.

Secretary:When do you plan to leave

Manager:I expect to depart for Chicago on Monday, May 6th, any time after 12:00 p.m. I’ll spend the evening of the 6th and all day the 7th there. I’ll leave on the 8th, on either a late afternoon or an early evening flight for Denver. I want to be in Denver all day May 9th. I plan to leave for Los Angeles on an early morning flight on the 10th. Please book an open return flight from Los Angeles to New York.

Secretary:Will you fly first class as usual, sir And where shall I make hotel reservation

Tips小贴士

①I’d like to go by train from here to Chicago and spend two days there. 我先坐火车到芝加哥,在那儿待两天。

by train是“乘火车”的意思,by是介词,后接不带冠词的交通工具名词,类似的用法还有by bus(乘汽车)、by bike(骑自行车)等。但“步行”用的是“on foot”,而不是“by foot”。例如:I often go to school on foot, but sometimes by bus.我经常步行去上学,但有时搭公共汽车。
