For we are not now concerned with the nature of things in themselves, which is independent of the conditions both of our sensibility and our understanding, but with nature, as an object of possible experience, and in this case the understanding, whilst it makes experience possible, thereby insists that the sensuous world is either not an object of experience at all, or must be nature [viz., an existence of things, determined according to universal laws 19 ]. 爱丽尔
当代美国诗人普拉斯经典代表作：死亡是一门艺术。美国著名诗人普拉斯的重要代表诗歌集。她在1963年2月11日自杀时，在书桌上留下了一个黑色的弹簧活页夹，里面是四十首诗作的手稿合集，集子最初的起名是《爱丽尔和其他诗》。后来由其丈夫休斯根据该手稿顺序进行了整理和删减，并于1965年和1966年分别出版了英国版和美国版两个不同版本的《爱丽尔》诗集。这个修订版本的《爱丽尔》与之前两个版本完全不同——它收录了完整的四十首诗歌，并严格遵照普拉斯最后留下的手稿顺序来编排，更加原汁原味地呈现作者那时候的思想状态。
